The Keynote Was a Hit

The buzz was palpable. The city was alive. And the crowd was amazing. Steven attended NY Tech Week a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed educating the audience on branding, a word that is often misused. During his keynote and panel, he spoke about the power and role branding plays in building a scalable company. But before we dig into the lessons, let’s clear the air. Here are some misconceptions we repeatedly hear.

  1. Branding is just design
  2. Branding comes after you’ve gained product market fit
  3. Branding doesn’t carry an ROI

So, let us give you the TL;DR on Steven’s Branding keynote.

1. Branding is so much more than just your logo, design aesthetic, or colors.

Branding is the feeling your product or service gives off. Branding is the gut feeling your customer has. It’s the value your organization is dedicated to providing.

Design is just a way to communicate those values.

2. Branding and community are almost synonymous these days.

The biggest brands in the world are scrambling to understand their community and they’re getting taken over by start-ups that understand this.

Find your tribe and community and they’ll tell you how to continue to refine your products over time.

3. Branding affects a business both internally and externally.

Here’s how…

External Effects of Branding

– Creates clarity in the mind of your consumer.

– Increases brand preference.

– Increases brand value, which enables premium pricing.

– Increases brand loyalty.

– Improves sales.

– Improves word-of-mouth.

Internal Effects of Branding

– Employees have clarity about the company’s mission.

– Guarantees consistency in all the company’s actions.

– Increases the efficiency of all employee actions.

– Creates a sense of common purpose and improves staff morale.

So what does this all mean?

As Benjamin Franklin once said, failing to prepare is preparing to fail, so if you want your start-up, scale-up, or enterprise organization to grow, invest in the foundation.Your employees, partners, vendors, shareholders, and most importantly, your customers will thank you.

We hope you enjoyed this post reflecting on Steven’s keynote. As you can tell, we love branding & have seen the massive impact it has on a business’s bottom line. So, if you have any questions about your company or branding in general, feel free to contact us today.
